Cappadocia: Check
This weekend I finally fulfilled one of the four things on my "Have to Visit in Turkey" checklist: Cappadocia. Unfortunately, I only went to the one village of Göreme and didn't even go into the Open-Air Museum although we made the hike up to it. We were told as teachers that we could get a museum card for a relatively cheap price and then can go into museums in the country for free or reduced rates, but this museum would not give us one, so we decided not to spend the 15 lira to go in, when the card would have cost 20 lira. At least now I have a bit more orientation of Cappadocia and know how to bus between the villages. The village was simply beautiful with the fairy chimneys dotting the landscape. Balloon rides are offered over the valley, but I think that is something that I really want to do in Egypt, whenever I go back. I will need to return though, to not only go inside the museum, but also the Greek churches and to tour the various sites.

Did you at least find out how much a balloon ride is there.
ReplyDeleteIt ranges from 70-300 lira a person. We can look into it more. It depends on if we want a hotel pick-up, breakfast on the balloon, and time up.
ReplyDeleteBalloon ride! I might do that! I like how you are checking out all the good places for people to go to when they come visit. Thanks!
ReplyDeletewhen you go back take pics of the greek churches for me :) i would love to know more about them.
